MOTHERS GROUP
As part of a local mothers group, I saw that there were a number of mums not able to connect because all meet ups were at cafes and public venues. As it was winter there was a lot of sickness around also. For new mums having a safe place when learning to feed, to chat to other mums and learn is really important. Each week between 10-15 mums meet in the red room. It has created a safe space where mums feel comfortable to come- share their struggles and connect with other mums. We were also able to run a first aid course for 30 parents. Having the bridge has allowed mums to connect, build friendships and support networks which are vital for mums with young kids. Thank you, church!

MEN’S BREAKFAST
For some time, we have been stirred to help the men of our congregation to better connect, with a particular emphasis on cross generations. We are truly brothers – sons of one Father. In the longer term of course, this should be a springboard for connection with brothers outside our congregation. Women tend to be better at connection than men, and we know that isolation is a very risky and dangerous situation for any of us to be in. We are sons of a Father who is the Ultimate Connector – and as His sons, we are genetically programmed to function in connection. So, we held the first of a new series of men’s meetings on 20th August – a breakfast at the Bridge – free of charge.
The facility was perfect
it was a ‘known location’ for those less well connected,
it had the required warm and hospitable atmosphere and room for the 60 (or thereabouts) men who attended,
the meal preparation and clean up facilities were all totally adequate, including being hygienic,
the ancillary facilities (tables, chairs, access, toilets etc.) were also totally adequate,
and not having to pay for a large external venue etc, meant that we could offer the event at no charge.
I have already alluded to the success of the morning – 60 men voted by being there, and the level of conversation and interaction was just what we’d hoped for. We also had the opportunity to speak to the importance of our brotherly connectedness, and the need to be intentional in this regard. This has given us the confidence to proceed with further activities. The availability of the premises, and facilities enabled this initiative to happen, for which we are very thankful.

CARD MAKING
Our cardmaking group of up to 8 women (only 2 belong to CCH) meet 3-4 times a year in the Hub. The Hub is the perfect space for our cardmaking – it is a generous, light filled space. We each have a large trestle table to lay out our supplies (which you cannot easily do in someone’s home due to the size). Whilst we make cards, we enjoy conversation and get creative inspiration from each other. We have lunch and even finish up with dinner together too. The ladies often comment on how fantastic the space is and are thankful to have access to it. I love the fact that with this group you don’t have to be a member of CCH or even a Christian to use this place, but even so, we are often encouraging one another anyway.

ART SPACE
In April and during Easter the Hub space was transformed into an art gallery. We displayed a range of artworks from different members of the church inspired by the theme of Easter. The aim was to create a space of beauty and expression that pointed to Jesus. The works, which were all so amazing, were displayed from the Easter weekend until the end of April. It was a great time and I believe people were so blessed by seeing visual testimonies of Jesus through the creativity of other believers. Ever since, we are so keen to make ways for the facility to be used as a space for beauty and creative expression through displaying art more permanently around the building.

COFFEE HUB
The Coffee Hub provides a welcoming space for our church family and our broader community.
It is an opportunity for people of all ages and nationalities to meet for great coffee, a lovely morning tea and gives each person time to connect with others and in doing so, to develop meaningful friendships.
There are usually about 20 to 25 people. Some come from our church family and others from the English speaking classes.
The ministry is supported by various church members who provide the morning tea, transport when needed and often turn up for a chat too.
It is such a blessing and an encouragement to see the Hub being used to connect people together in community.
The Coffee Hub meets monthly, every third Thursday morning between 10am and 12 noon. All are welcome!
